On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the 4.5 inch shell room between 19 and 23 stations on 4 deck looking to port from the starboard side at 20 station showing racks for the stowage of 4.5 inch shells and an expanded metal screen round the shell hoist on the left. Against the forward bulkhead on the right are a cordtex stowage container in the foreground, a demolition locker at high level and racks for the stowage of fuses. The racks against the port side of the ship are labelled for the stowage of small arms ammunition.
