On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the 4.5 inch shell room between 19 and 23 stations on 4 deck looking to starboard from the port side at 20 station showing the vertical ladder up to 3 deck in the left foreground and behind it is a beam labelled 'Scotsman' (sic - Scotchman is the correct term). A wire screen is protecting the flood and sea valves. Against the ship's side are racks for the stowage of 3 boxes of Cox's bolt driving guns (not shown in the shell room contents list), 2 inch rocket flare heads, plastic explosives and mortars On the right are racks for the stowage of 4.5 inch shells and fixed to the side of the racks is a list of contents of the shell room. A vertical format negative.
