On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the 4.5 inch shell room between 19 and 23 stations on 4 deck looking aft and to starboard from to port of the centreline at 20 station showing 4.5 inch shell racks on the left with a shell room contents list, two fire extinguishers, a telephone and a thermometer fitted to the side. An expanded metal screen is around the shell hoist on the right. Against the aft bulkhead are three nests of drawers for the stowage of spare gear and on deck under the drawers are hanks of rope and shell mats.
