On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the 4.5 inch shell room between 19 and 23 stations on 4 deck looking to starboard from the port side at 22 station showing 4.5 inch shell stowage racks, three nests of drawers for spare gear and more stowage racks for 4.5 inch shells against the aft bulkhead. On the deck under the drawers are hanks of rope and shell mats. On the left are the 4.5 inch shell racks and a fire extinguisher. Against the ship's side are shelves for the stowage of 3 pounder saluting gun cartridges and for gunnery equipment spares.
