On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the 4.5 inch shell room between 19 and 23 stations on 4 deck looking forward from the centreline at 21½ station showing the 4.5 inch shell hoist on the left. Two fire extinguishers, a telephone and a shell room contents list are on the side of a 4.5 inch shell stowage rack on the right. The vertical steel ladder leading up to 3 deck has a Scotsman behind it. Against the ship's forward bulkhead are racks for electric primers and fuzes, a locker for demolition fuzes and igniters, a shell room spray valve and a tray for the stowage of cordtex.
