On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the senior rates' mess between 56½ and 61½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking forward and to starboard from 57½ station showing a small bar built into the corner of the mess. The bar is equipped with a beer pump and a lager pump. A Booth's Gin ice bucket and Courage ashtrays and bar mat are on the bar. A loudspeaker and a spirits cupboard are against the ship's side and on top of the cupboard are two bottles of Hunt's Indian tonic water and a can of Portland gas lighter refill. A settee bench is against the forward bulklhead and above it is a visitor's book and a framed modern art painting.
