On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the senior rates' mess between 56½ and 61½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking forward and to port from 57½ station showing a settee bench against the forward bulklhead and above it is a framed modern art painting. A greatcoat locker is in the corner next to the door to the mess and five petty officer caps are on top of the locker. Hanging on the back of the mess door is the jacket of a P.O. mechanician. An electric fire is on the left.
