On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the senior rates' mess between 56½ and 61½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking aft and to port from 57 station showing the door to the mess. Hanging on the back of the mess door are the jackets of a P.O. mechanician and a P.O. with a good conduct chevron. An electric fire, a distribution box, a letter rack and a broom are on the left.
