Pen and wash drawing showing the ‘Dido’ badly caught in a storm, port bow view; sails torn apart; fore mast broken, lying on port side of hull; topsail yard on mizzen mast is split, fragment of topsail (still attached) blowing in the wind; waves crashing on to port side; three bolts of lightning present in sky, left of composition. Preparatory drawing to coloured lithograph in NMM (PAH0870). Effingham J. Kellow was second master aboard the Dido.
