On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the gun direction position between 31½ and 34 stations on the centreline of 02 deck looking forward and to port from the starboard side at 33 station showing the gun direction officer's sight No. 115, manufactured by Rose Brothers (Gainsborough) Ltd, on the right. Various fire control units and communications equipment are mounted on the port side screen, including the sight selector and the multi check-fire push box. Snow is on the deck. Berthed alongside the north wall of the basin is the general purpose frigate Phoebe (1964), pendant F42, undergoing a maintenance period.
