On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the diesel generator compartment between 6 and 11½ stations on 2 deck looking forward and slightly to port from 11 station on the centreline showing the port Paxman 300kW diesel generator on the left and the starboard generator on the right. An air compressor and a jerry can of diesel oil are next to the forward bulkhead. The watertight doors into the lobby between 5 and 6 stations and the bosun's store ahead of 5 station are both open.
