On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the main passageway (known as the Burma Road) between 16 and 23 stations on 2 deck looking forward from 18 station showing two fuse panels, a changeover switch and a cable stowage on the left. An automatic emergency lantern is next to the closed watertight door at 16 station and a venitlation trunk incorporating a centrifugal fan is in the starboard forward corner. The fan starter panel is on the right and in the right foreground are the trunk hatch above the Hull Outfit 20 (type 177) sonar directing gear compartment and a hand winch.
