On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is on the flat outside the shipwright's workshop between 47 and 48¾ stations on the starboard side of 01 deck looking forward and to port showing a fire main and hose basket by the forward guardrail. Large baulks of timber and a one gallon can of disinfectant fluid are on deck on the left. An open boiler room ventilation trunk is behind a vertical steel ladder. The whaler oar and timber stowage rack is beyond the guard rail.
