On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the main passageway (known as the Burma Road) between 30⅔ and 41 stations on 2 deck looking forward from 33 station showing the closed watertight door at 30⅔ station. On the left are an international compressed air breathing apparatus cabinet, two covered cable stowage brackets, the door to the communications control room annexe and two emergency changeover switch boxes. On the right are the open hatch leading down to 3 deck, the door to the switchboard room and the stairs leading up to 1 deck. A 30 inch diameter watertight hatch is in the deck.
