On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the main passageway (known as the Burma Road) between 49 and 63 stations on 2 deck looking aft and to starboard from 56 station showing two open hatches leading down to junior rates' messes on 3 deck. In the lobby outside the senior rates' mess are a damage control breathing apparatus cabinet, a pure air breathing apparatus gas cylinder, a damage control breathing apparatus spare hose and face mask cabinet, a rack containing 5 gallon drums of foam liquid, the emergency compressor for the sick bay, a fuse panel and various fan starter panels.
