On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the main passageway (known as the Burma Road) between 49 and 63 stations on 2 deck looking aft and to port from 58 station showing an open hatch leading down to a junior rates' mess on 3 deck in the left foreground with two telephones and a fire hose basket beyond it. Two fire hose baskets, four 5 gallon drums of foam liquid, a fire hose nozzle, a transformer, fuse boxes, a telephone, a main broadcast loudspeaker and an automatic emergency lantern and a salvage cupboard are against the port side. The watertight door at 63 station is open.
