On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is on the quarterdeck between 67 and 80½ stations on 2 deck looking to port from 71 station on the centreline showing the quartermaster's position next to the bulkhead of the mortar handing room. Telephones, microphones, intercom speakers and a main broadcast loudspeaker are against the bulkhead and the main telephone cabinet is propped up on the deck instead of being mounted on the bulkhead. The watertight door to the mortar handing room is open. The ship is berthed starboard side to the basin wall. A vertical format negative.
