The Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959). On the flight deck between 57 and 71 stations on 1 deck.
On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is on the flight deck between 57 and 71 stations on 1 deck looking aft and to port from the port side at 66 station showing the portable brow stowed at the end of the flight deck extension. In the background berthed against the west wall of No. 3 basin is the Netherlands Navy frigate Isaac Sweers (1967), pendant F814, which was on a visit with the Standing Naval Force Atlantic (STANAVFORLANT). Alongside the east wall of 2 basin is a Daring class destroyer with her main director removed. This is either the Daring (1949) en route for scrapping at Blyth later in June 1971 or the Defender (1950) being prepared for whipping trials in the Firth of Forth in early 1972. The Berwick (1959) is berthed starboard side to No. 3 basin wall.
