On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is on the flight deck between 57 and 71 stations on 1 deck looking forward and to port from 64 station on the starboard side showing the flight deck safety nets and guardrails in the raised position. Awning stanchions have been rigged. The Berwick (1959) is berthed starboard side to No. 3 basin wall. In the background berthed against the north wall of the basin is the frigate Phoebe (1964), pendant F42, undergoing a maintenance period.
