On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is on the flight deck between 57 and 71 stations on 1 deck looking forward from 60 station on the port side showing the hangar with its door fully open. The flight directing officer's window is covered and the cover is being held in place by with window wiper. A lieutenant is in conversation with another officer inside the hangar. Against the east wall of the basin is the Royal Fleet Auxiliary store carrier Robert Middleton (1938), pendant A241. The Berwick (1959) is berthed starboard side to No. 3 basin wall.
