The Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959). On the forecastle deck looking forward on the starboard side from 24 station.

On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is looking forward from 24 station on the starboard side of the forecastle deck showing the two breakwaters with four cable reels, a washdeck locker, and exhaust fan vents between them. On the left are spare fuel hoses and a ventilator stored on deck with the 4.5 inch shell room flooding cabinet and the flexible hose couplings locker ahead of them. Awning stanchions are rigged. The masts of the Norwegian frigate Narvik (1965) and the Royal Navy frigate Lowestoft (1960) can be seen ahead of the ship. They are members of the Standing Naval Force Atlantic (STANAVFORLANT) and are on a visit.
