On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is looking forward along the walkway from 57 station on the port side of 1 deck showing the bulkhead of the hangar on the right with liferaft stowage overhead. The stores davit is on the deck edge at 50 station and the 25 feet motor cutter can be seen in its davits. The ship is berthed starboard side to the basin wall. Ahead of her is the Norwegian frigate Narvik (1965), pendant F304, berthed outboard of the Royal Navy frigate Lowestoft (1960). Both ships are members of the visiting Standing Naval Force Atlantic (STANAVFORLANT).
