Signed 'RUMcC' lower right and inscribed at the bottom, as title, both in white. Though recorded and stored as a drawing this is in fact an oil-on-board painting showing a basic representation of an Admiralty 'V'-class destroyer in port broadside view in a moderate sea. All of the main distinguishing features of the class are present but the detailing is poor. The 'Valorous' carried the pendant number F53 (as shown) from November 1919 to January 1921 and was fitted as a minelayer. The mine chutes can just be seen at her stern. The artist might be an amateur or possibly a workaday 'pierhead painter' who turned out such images rapidly for sale in a naval area.
