The London Steam Ship of London & Hull on fire in the Humber off Cleathorpes early on the morning of the 20th Decr 1835

An elevated view of the ‘London’ steamship on fire off Cleathorps (sic) in the Humber. Fire and smoke appear from the stern side of the ship. Several small boats and yachts converge on the ‘London’ to assist with transporting passengers to safety. The background shows a partial view of the coastal town, including two windmills and a building inscribed ‘The Hotel’. The tall structure on the right with a gridded, octagonal surface may be a signalling station. Numerous figures can be seen running towards the beach in aid. A possible factory building lies at the far right in the distance. Lithograph from a zinc plate, made by A R Grieve, after a drawing by the civil engineer Andrew Smith. Published by Chapman & Co.
