Portable reflector telescope

This is a portable Gregorian (reflector) telescope which has been attributed to George Adams Senior though it is not signed. This telescope is similar to other telescopes in the collection, AST0938 and AST0940 so much so that it seems likely the main components came from the same workshop. AST0938 and AST0940 are identical except for the signature on the former and except for the boxes. Telescope AST0945 is identical with the other two except for the shagreen covering but there are minor differences with the stand.

Telescope: The brass barrel is covered by red and white shagreen (a type of leather). It has adjustable inclination and rotary movement (or altitude and azimuth movement). The eyepiece has a shaped brass cap and there is an object end cap. Within the barrel are primary and secondary specula (mirrors). There is a screw thread for focusing which is done by moving the secondary mirror by use of the rod attached to the barrel. The telescope is in good condition. The length with the eyepiece and object cap is 425 mm. The diameter of the barrel is 70 mm and the diameter of the aperture is 45 mm.

Stand: The telescope is mounted on a brass pillar stand with three collapsable claw legs.
