A starboard side view of the salvage ship Ranger (1880) aground on Crow Bar, Isles of Scilly.
A port side view, just forward of the broadside, of the Liverpool Salvage Association ship Ranger (1880) aground on Crow Bar, just off the north of St. Mary's Island. The ship has a list to port where it has settled on the bar as the tide has dropped. A small white boat is alongside off the port bow. In the foreground, is a starboard quarter view of an unidentified steam work boat at anchor. The sail has been lashed to the mast. The forward companionway and one of the skylight aft are open. A man is sitting in the stern near the tiller looking down. Tresco, the Eastern Isles and St. Martin's are in the background.
A glass copy negative of an original print. The negative has some manipulation where the photographer used red masking fluid and graphite to enhance the sea.
The salvage ship Ranger ran aground on Crow Bar on 7 June 1899 and was refloated on the next tide, the same day.
