A middle distant port side view, just forward of the broadside, of the Liverpool Salvage Association ship Ranger (1880) aground on Crow Bar, just off the north of St. Mary's Island. The ship has a list to port where it has settled on the bar as the tide has dropped. An anchor has been dropped astern. A small white boat is towing a smaller black rowing boat away from the ship's starboard side. The photographer was standing on the top of the slope to the beach with two mounted carronades in the foreground on the rocks. The island of Tresco is in the background.
A glass copy negative of an original print. The negative has some manipulation where the photographer used red masking fluid on the glass side and graphite on the emulsion side to enhance the rocks and sea.
The salvage ship Ranger ran aground on Crow Bar on 7 June 1899 and was refloated on the next tide, the same day.
