A starboard quarter view of the cargo steamer Renwick (1890) stranded on Castle Beach, Falmouth Bay.
An elevated starboard quarter view of the cargo steamer Renwick (1890) stranded on Castle Beach in Falmouth Bay. A number of people are on the beach and rocks off the ship's starboard side. The tide is just off the port side. The rudder has broken away from the stern post. The photographer was standing near Cliff Road looking across the wreck to the southeast towards Pendennis Castle and Pendennis Point in the background.
The emulsion side of the negative has graphite pencil markings on the stern and rudder. Masking fluid has been used to on a few of the clouds and part of the ship's hull.
On 26 February 1903, the Renwick was in ballast when it dragged ashore on Castle Beach in Falmouth Bay during a south-westerly gale. On 11 March 1903 the ship was floated off and towed into Falmouth Harbour [Dundee Courier, 12 March 1903]. The ship later was sold and after temporary repairs was taken to Cardiff to be repaired in Mount Stuart Dry Dock, arriving on Monday 6 April 1903 [Western Mail, 7 April 1903].
