A close-up starboard stern view of the cargo steamer Renwick (1890) stranded on Castle Beach in Falmouth Bay.
A close-up starboard stern view of the cargo steamer Renwick (1890) stranded on Castle Beach in Falmouth Bay. A large crowd of people are standing around the stern post, rudder and propeller looking at the camera or at the hull. A further group is standing near the ladder running up the side to the deck. The tide is just off the port side. The rudder has broken away from the stern post.
The emulsion side of the negative has graphite pencil markings on the propeller and rudder.
On 26 February 1903, the Renwick was in ballast when it dragged ashore on Castle Beach in Falmouth Bay during a south-westerly gale. On 11 March 1903 the ship was floated off and towed into Falmouth Harbour [Dundee Courier, 12 March 1903]. The ship later was sold and after temporary repairs was taken to Cardiff to be repaired in Mount Stuart Dry Dock, arriving on Monday 6 April 1903 [Western Mail, 7 April 1903].
