A distant view, fine off the starboard bow, of an unidentified brigantine.

A distant view, fine off the starboard bow, of an unidentified brigantine aground close inshore at an unknown location. There are crew on the double top yards of the foremast and a ship's boat along the port side. Four cargo steamers and a brigantine with its sails furled are in the background on the horizon, possibly at anchor.

The photographer was standing on the rocks close to the water, looking across flat fissured rocks towards the wreck. A young boy stands on the rocks, hands on hips, to the right of the image with two schooners on the horizon either side.

The reverse of the negative has 'Lynton 1777' in pencil along the top edge. No sailing ship called Lynton has been located in Larne's Shipwreck Index, nor is there a ship of that name in Lloyd's Register of Shipping. Mercantile Navy list records a New Brunswick-owned Lynton (1874) but it is described as a barque.
