The steam trawler Maud (1905) aground on Pentreath Beach, near the Lizard.
An elevated middle-distant starboard bow view of the steel steam trawler Maud (1905) stranded in surf on Pentreath Beach two miles north-west of the Lizard, Cornwall. The ship is sharply heeling to port. The surf can be seen in lines breaking on the shallow beach.
The Maud was on passage to Hull from Fleetwood for permanent repairs after being stranded on the Isle of Man. The Maud left Fleetwood on 3 February at 1130am, taken in tow by the tug Challenge. The crew abandoned the trawler on 11 February as the ship was taking water due to a gale and none of the pumps were working. They were picked up by the tug from boats. At about 940am the hawser broke and the Maude drifted in shore and wrecked on Pentreath Beach [see Wreck Report, no. 311].
