Inside the wrecked barque Seine (1899) looking forwards to the forecastle.

A view of the iron sailing barque Seine (1899) wrecked on the beach at Perranporth, north Cornwall, taken from the plating inside the ship looking forwards to the shattered forecastle. The ship is lying over on its port side with her starboard side plating and frames open and exposed. Water is washing into the lower frames and plating, which look slightly ethereal due to the exposure time of the image. People, including a couple of children, are standing on the wreckage and on the beach. Rollers can be seen breaking on the beach in the distance to the left of the wreck. This is a similar image to G14043.

The Seine was on its way from Iquique to Falmouth with a cargo of saltpetre when it was driven ashore in heavy weather on 28 December 1900. Part of the crew was rescued by rockets and breaches buoys while the others had to drop over the side of the ship and be rescued by locals in the surf. The wreck was sold.
