The Italian barque Rosa Tacchini (date unknown) wrecked off the Paper Ledges, Tresco

A starboard side view, just forward of beam of the Italian sailing barque Rosa Tacchini (date unknown) aground on rocks off Paper Ledge, south of Tresco. The ship has been dismasted and the curve of the planking suggests that the back of the ship has been broken in a number of places. A two-masted sailing boat is off port side. The upper deck, poop deck and forecastle deck has a significant number of people sitting or standing. The photograph was taken from the shore close to the ship.

On 22 November 1872 while sheltering from a south-westerly gale the Rosa Tacchini's anchor parted and it was driven onto the Paper Ledges south of Tresco and wrecked. The ship had been on passage from Buenos Aires to Antwerp with a cargo of hides, wool and tallow. The figurehead, just visible in the photograph is on display in the Valhalla collection on Tresco having been washed ashore - see FHD0056
