A starboard bow view of the Transporter (1911) ashore off the Penzer Cliffs, near Mousehole.
A starboard bow view of the cargo steamer Transporter (1911) ashore at the foot of the Penzer Cliffs, about one mile southwest of Mousehole. The tide is out and the hull is mostly exposed except at the turn of the bilges. Lines have been taken ashore from the forecastle to the cliffs and a ladder leads down from the port side to the foot of the cliff. A number of people are on the forecastle in front of the 'goal post' mast looking over the rails towards the camera. A further group are standing near the bottom of the ladder.
This is a glass copy negative from an original print.
The Transporter ran aground in thick fog below the Penzar cliffs near Mousehole while in ballast on its way to the Tyne. The crew was rescued by breeches buoy but later returned to the ship. The Lady of Isles assisted with refloating the Transporter the next day.
