A distant port side view, taken from abaft the beam, of the Canadian Pacific Steamships cruise ship Duchess of Atholl (1928) at anchor off Bathurst, Gambia. Her starboard anchor is deployed and an accommodation ladder is rigged at a shell door aft. Lifeboats 16 and 18 are missing from their davits. The photographer is on the shore looking along a landing stage on which a number of local people are waiting. Moored just off the landing stage are a rowing boat and a steel pontoon for cargo, passengers, livestock or a vehicle. Negatives numbers P83596 to P83598 and P83637 and P83638 were taken on the same occasion.
