The Mohegan left London on 13 October 1898 with 97 crew, 17 cattlemen and 53 passengers, as well as 1,280 tons of general cargo. The ship was seen passing Eddystone Lighthouse at about 5pm on 14 October, about 10-12 miles out. The ship then ran onto the Manacle rocks at about 7pm. Some 102 people lost their lives.
