Large silver tea urn by Henry Chawner, London 1796-7, with a presentation inscription to Captain Henry Trollope (1756-1836) ‘London Augst 4 1796 Presented to CAPT. TROLLOPE of his MAJESTY’s SHIP GLATTON by the Subscribers to a Fund for encouraging the Capture of FRENCH PRIVATEERS, Arm'd Vessels &c in testimony of their Sense of his very gallant conduct in the Action of the 16th July last with EIGHT FRENCH SHIPS of WAR and of the Protection he has thereby afforded to the Commerce of GREAT BRITAIN.' The inscription is surrounded by a border of trophies.
On a quadrilateral base with ball feet, the urn is supported by four reeded legs with paw feet and has a reeded spout. It has two lion masks supporting ring handles. The lid has a urn finial and is engraved with the Trollope crest of a stag.
