Zenith sector
This is a box of "SMALL PARTS BELONGING TO THE BRADLEY SECTOR" made in the 19th century for the 18th century telescope, Bradley's zenith sector (AST0992). The box contains 14 pieces, some of which are made by Troughton and Simms leading to the suggestion that they were made around 1840. These parts were presented to the Museum by the Astronomer Royal in March 1966.
It is suggested that this object be renumbered so as to become a part number of AST0992.
The box contains:
- a spirit level
- a magnifier for a plumb bob scale
- a magnifier for the upper end of the plumb bob
- an eyepiece cell by 'Troughton & Simms. London'
- a bob for a plumb bob; a brass cap 73.025mm diameter
- a brass cap 98.425mm diameter; and object glass with brass cap (OG 3.5inches diameter)
- a small reflector for illuminating the field of view; a brass key with square socket
- 2 steel tommy bars
- a square headed screw and a temporary mount for a level with a spring clip on wooden base marked with the Admiralty stamp (* over an arrow).
