The photographer is on the port side of 1 deck at 23 station looking forward and to starboard showing the twin-headed electric capstan and the starboard chain pipe. In the right background berthed on the Itchen Quays is the cross-channel passenger ferry Maid of Orleans (1949) which was at Southampton for refit towards the end of 1962.
