On board the Type 81 frigate Gurkha (1960) alongside the fitting out berth of John I Thornycroft & Co Ltd at Woolston, Southampton. The photographer is in the crew's galley between 45 and 50 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking aft and to starboard. Against the aft bulkhead are a boiling copper, steaming and roasting ovens, an hot cupboard and a serving hatch. Against the ship's side are another two boiling coppers and a mixing and mincing machine. A dresser unit with shelves under is in the centre of the space.
