On board the Type 81 frigate Gurkha (1960) alongside the fitting out berth of John I Thornycroft & Co Ltd at Woolston, Southampton. The photographer is in the guided missile and small arms magazine between 45 and 48 stations on the port side of 4 deck looking aft showing the battened shelving against the ship's side for the stowage of grenades, 2" mortar bombs, mortar tubes, 0.303", 7.62mm and 9mm cartridges, bren gun magazines and a spare battery. The centre of the space is for the stowage of Seacat missiles. The door to the magazine is on the left and a telephone and a fire extinguisher are next to it.
