On board the Type 81 general purpose frigate Eskimo (1961) alongside the fitting out berth of J Samuel White & Co Ltd at West Cowes, Isle of Wight. The photographer is in the P.Os' mess between 73 and 78 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking forward and to port showing two folding tables and six easy chairs in the foreground. On the right are a kit locker, a tea cupboard and a bookshelf. In the centre there are two contactor panels and two rows of coat hooks mounted on a framework in front of the two ammunition hoists which pass through the mess from 3 deck below to 1 deck above. Kit lockers and triple berth bunk units fill the forward section of the mess.
