On board the Type 81 general purpose frigate Eskimo (1961) in No. 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard during her 1971-1974 modernisation. The photographer is in the operations room between 42 and 45½ stations on 1 deck looking forward and slightly to port from to starboard of the captain's chair at 44 station showing a communications desk with three chairs. The positions are equipped with morse keys and above the desk are telephone circuit and switch boards, a main broadcast microphone terminal, telephones, a speaking tube, the fleet disposition board and the fleet stateboard. A noticeboard fitted with three bulldog clips is attached to the side panel of the desk. A CO² fire extinguisher is against the fly bulkhead.
