The photographer is in the commanding officer's day cabin between 46¼ and 48½ stations on the starboard side of 1 deck looking aft showing a double pedestal desk with correspondence tray rack and a double door bookcase above. An Imperial portable typewriter, a pile of papers and a senior officer's cap are on a cupboard and a small cupboard is mounted above on the aft bulkhead. A round table and an easy chair are in the right foreground and next to the open door of the cabin is an automatic emergency lantern. The ship's commanding officer at the time was Commander Alan Grose, RN.
