On board the Type 81 general purpose frigate Eskimo (1961) in No. 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard during her 1971-1974 modernisation. The photographer is on the port side of the roof of the 4.5 inch handing room and gun crew's shelter at 76 station looking aft over the quarterdeck which runs from 76 to 95 stations on 1 deck. The aft 4.5 inch Mark V Mod. 2 gun mounting is on the left. The davit for the sonar type 182 is in the starboard aft corner and the two towed bodies for the type 182 are stowed abaft the capstan. Two dan buoys are laid athwartships near the stern. The ship is berthed port side to the south wall of the basin. An Austin 1100 Mark 1 motor car is on the quayside on the right and a diesel shunter locomotive is at work on the left.
