On board the Type 81 general purpose frigate Eskimo (1961) in No. 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard during her 1971-1974 modernisation. The photographer is on the port side of the quarterdeck at 81½ station looking to starboard and slightly aft showing the davit for the sonar type 182 in the starboard aft corner and the two towed bodies for the type 182 are stowed abaft the capstan. Two large cable reels with wheeled trollies are to starboard of the capstan. Two dan buoys are laid fore and aft on the port side of the deck in the foreground. The ship is berthed port side to the south wall of the basin. The Royal Fleet Auxiliary store carrier Bacchus (1962) is berthed alongside the east wall of the basin and the stores lighter PAS 1015 is ahead of her.
