The photographer is in the passageway between 16 and 32 stations on the port side of 2 deck looking forward and slightly to starboard from 24 station showing the open hatch leading down to the hull outfit 15 (sonar type 170) compartment in the right foreground. Above the opening is a hoist and against the starboard bulkhead is the hoist starter panel. The door to the junior ratings' bathroom and the capstan control panel are also on the starboard side. An emergency change over switch and connection box is next to the open watertight door at 16 station. The base of the capstan is in the deckhead.
