On board the Type 81 general purpose frigate Eskimo (1961) in No. 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard during her 1971-1974 modernisation. The photographer is in the passageway between 56 and 64 stations on the port side of 2 deck looking aft. On the right is a table and upturned stools in the junior rates' dining hall and a fuse panel is against the bulkhead. On the starboard side are the boiler uptakes and the doors into the machinery control room and the routine office. Notice boards and an automatic emergency lantern are against the starboard bulkheads and sports notices are on the nearest board, which is edged with tinsel. On the port side are the doors to the boiler room access hatch, the ship's and supply office, the canteen, 'H' switchboard and the crew's bathroom. A fire hose is passing across the deck and through the air tight door to the boiler room access. A vertical format negative.
