On board the Type 81 general purpose frigate Eskimo (1961) alongside the south side of No. 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard. The photographer is on the starboard side of the quarterdeck looking aft from 81 station. The canvas covered capstan is in the foreground and the davit for the CAST (Canadian anti-submarine towed) variable depth sonar is in the aft corner. She is berthed starboard side to the quay and a Leander class frigate is astern of her. The Leander class ship has scaffolding on her forecastle and a Fyson portable gangplank is deloyed amidships. A number of motor cars are on the quayside. A vertical format negative.
