On board the Type 14 utility frigate Duncan (1957) alongside the fitting out berth in the shipyard of John I Thornycroft & Co Ltd on the River Itchen at Woolston, Southampton. The photographer is on the starboard side of 2 deck looking forward from 40 station showing the twin trainable 21 inch anti-submarine torpedo tube mounting in the right foreground. The 27 feet motor whaler is in its davits between 30 and 36 stations and the RNSA 14 feet sailing dinghy is on a deck cradle under the whaler. The torpedo impulse charges box is against the bulkhead on the left with a cable reel above it. In the background at 01 deck level is the back of the signal flag locker and the single 40 mm bofors gun. The ship is berthed port side to the quay. A vertical format negative.
